Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny will play no part in Arsenal’s opening Premier League game against Liverpool on August 14.
Ozil is due to begin pre-season training today after time off following Germany’s progression to the Euro 2016 semi-finals. While Giroud and Koscielny return later in the week after their Euro final disappointment.
“Liverpool would come too early,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.
Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck are on the long-term injury list, while Jack Wilshere is only set to resume training this week following a patella tendon problem.
“Jack has started running again today. He will train next week,” Wenger said yesterday.
Alexis Sanchez and Arron Ramsey also resumed training late and may not be ready for Liverpool. Neither featured in the 8-0 win over Norwegians Viking FK on Friday.
Santi Cazorla did play 90 minutes, scoring and missing a penalty, though Wenger has warned he may not reach full fitness until later in August.
