Arsenal will take park in the Platinum One Challenge at Shamrock Rovers’ Tallaght Stadium later this month – a triangular tournament also featuring hosts Rovers and Manchester United.

Neil Banfield’s reserve squad will face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United reserves on Thursday, August 19, before completing the tournament against a Shamrock Rovers XI on Sunday, August 22.

New UEFA European Under-19 winner Gilles Sunu could feature for Arsenal, along with promising young stars like Sanchez Watt, Cedric Evina and Ignasi Miquel.

Irish youth international goalkeeper Sean McDermott should play a part, while another Irish starlet Conor Henderson – who has been involved in the first team setup pre-season – could also make the trip.

Liam Brady, Arsenal’s Head of Youth Development commented: ‘Arsenal’s policies in player development are fundamental to the success of the club.

‘Once players get to reserve level they have to prove that they are capable of moving into the first team.

‘An event like The Platinum One Challenge is important in that respect.

‘We will have some very talented young players from all over the world on show and I am looking forward to seeing how they perform in this tournament.’
